Solving the Hidden Hills Gutter Puzzle: Creative Solutions for Challenging Corners
Challenge
Jamie was called in for a job in Hidden Hills, where the challenge was anything but typical. The house had two 45-degree turns on the outside corners, along with an inside corner, creating a complex gutter system that required precision. On top of that, the deck didn’t offer any solid points to use for measurements, making it even trickier to set the correct slope for the gutters.
Without proper reference points, Jamie knew the job could be a headache. The gutters needed to function perfectly to handle water flow, especially with the complicated corner angles. But the task of getting the right slope seemed nearly impossible without a solid foundation to work from.
Solution
Jamie wasn’t deterred—he just needed to think outside the box. His first step was to use a floating strap hanger system, lining them up with funnels to direct water flow accurately. But even with the strap hangers in place, there was still the issue of setting the slope. With no reliable points to take measurements off of, Jamie had to get creative.
His solution? He grabbed some screws and anchored them into the joists of the deck, using them as makeshift reference points. From there, he ran a string between the points. To ensure he had the correct slope, Jamie had to criss-cross his strings to pinpoint the approximate corner points. This allowed him to set up his straps and finally establish the proper slope for the gutters.
With his ingenious setup in place, Jamie was able to install the gutters with precision, ensuring they would perform flawlessly. The solution not only solved the immediate problem but also demonstrated Jamie’s ability to adapt and innovate under challenging circumstances.
